Our teachers

Bethany Gregory

Bethany is the Principal of Upstagers Academy. She prides herself on providing extensive triple threat musical theatre training in a fun and safe space, to young people for the last year and a half. She has been part of the Upstagers Team for almost 4 years now! She provides private singing tuition from The Barn for young and training performers.

Bethany trained in Professional Musical Theatre Performance and graduated with a first class BA(hons). She regularly works as a professional vocalist in the North, with her most recent credit being Principal Vocalist in “The Annual Yorkshire Christmas Spectacular”. Her other notable roles include Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera, and Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret.

She is a Lecturer of Voice at Leeds Conservatoire, providing voice training to the BA Musical Theatre and Acting students, and the MA Musical Theatre students. She prepares training performers for the professional musical theatre industry upon graduation.

Bethany’s approach to Voice Training is varied, calling upon many models and up-to-date research in voice pedagogy. She uses Cross Training in her tuition to build well-rounded, flexible, healthy performers. She is delighted to be passing on her knowledge, experience and passion for musical theatre on to the students of Upstagers Academy!

Niamh Stacey

Niamh is our newest team member at Upstagers Academy, teaching acting and singing.

Niamh has been a professional performer for five years, performing in the UK's largest Bavarian Oompah band, and now owns her own party princess business- Perfectly Princess events.

As part of her Oompah touring, Niamh headlined the UK Brass Band Finals, and the UK Darts Final. Niamh's princess company has quickly grown, and is now representing eleven characters with more on the way!

Niamh is also a Nursery practitioner and has significant experience with children, and one to one with special education children.

Niamh is very excited to start the second year of Upstagers teaching!

Alex Wright

Alex has been a member of Upstagers since the age of nine, performing in many shows. He has developed his dancing, singing and acting skills over the years moving from chorus to principal roles.

Amongst many highlights, Alex performed as Michael in Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre, West End in a one-off performance with Upstagers and as Caractacus Potts in Upstagers' acclaimed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2023.

Recently he has performed as Mark in A Chorus Line (GAOS) at The Spa Theatre Bridlington for NODA 2019, for which he was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical. Alex was also Dance Captain for Upstagers' 2019 Pantomime Sleeping Beauty.

Alex also regularly performs with other local societies including Guiseley Amateurs, Brassneck Theatre, Futurist Productions, Ilkley Playhouse and Bingley Amateurs.

Hannah Green

Hannah is our former Upstagers Academy Principal.

Hannah is a Performing Arts teacher and Voice Specialist with over five years experience working within the education sector. She also works in the arts industry as a professional singer.

Hannah undertook five years of classical training as a Chorister in the Chapel Choir of Harrogate Ladies College and attained her Grade 8 in Singing with Trinity Guildhall at age 17. She has an Honours Degree in Performing Arts (2.1) from Northumbria University. In her first year she starred in the university's annual musical production, The Wedding Singer (as Julia) and subsequently became the vocal director for future shows. Working on her craft and teaching skills in Singing, Dance and Drama she has played a wide variety of roles from Clarice, in Servant of Two Masters, to Audrey, in Little Shop of Horrors. She has experienced busking in Leeds city centre and has toured the UK in a theatre in educational pantomime Robin Hood. She then went on to study education and received her PGCE from Teeside University.

Hannah has completed professional singing contracts for the Malmaison Hotel in Leeds, Park Dean resorts and many more. She is currently singing in a professional 1940s Wartime trio 'The Hummingbirds UK'.

For the last several years Hannah has been teaching performing arts and music theory across the country at stage schools, colleges and recording studios namely; Theatre Train, Leeds City College, Stagecoach, City Sound Studios and Principal at the Upstagers Academy classes! Though other commitments mean Hannah is no longer our Academy Principal she remains a member of our wonderful Academy team.
